ConfusedDanny This article uses the localized English version of the character’s name as the title. However, their original name will be featured in parentheses in the infobox’s title.

Danny (Ciro in Italian) is a Neapolitan Mastiff who is a main deuteragonist of the series and one of the Royal Guards.

He’s fond of his new friend, Kate, and does his best to help out, despite being the butt of most of his friends’ jokes. He is determined to make Eva pay for her crimes against the kingdom.

Appearance[]

Danny has lop ears and a wrinkled face, which are the signature traits of a Mastiff. He is tan with a grayish brown muzzle and a white spot on his lower chest. He has light brown eyes, and wears a blue Royal Guard collar with dark blue paw prints on it.

Depiction in the series[]

Concept art of Danny

Little is known about Danny's backstory, but it is known that he became a Royal Guard prior to the events of the show, but it was rather informal as he didn't completely finish his training. He has also mentioned to always be the first one to show up to class when he was younger.

Personality[]

Danny is a canine with a cheerful and energetic disposition and is not afraid to speak his own mind. He is incredibly faithful to Princess Ava and his fellow Royal Guards and will do anything for them, but can occasionally be stubborn when it comes to traveling to certain places, and at times even impulsive. He can also be quite ditzy and clumsy at times, which sometimes earns him a laugh from his peers, but he always laughs along with them.

He also has a love of food, as evident when he explains in Food for Thought that he eats six meals and two snacks a day.

Trivia[]

  • Oddly enough, Danny resembles more of an English Mastiff than a Neapolitan one.
  • Ciro is the Italian version of the name Cyrus. Despite this, he is given a completely different name in the English dub, Danny.
  • In both US and UK dubs, he speaks with a Northern English accent accompanied with a lisp.
  • There are some speculation of Danny representing an Italian stereotype, specifically that of Naples. He is known to be a huge foodie, and is often described as being a bit sluggish in the mind, lazy, and even impolite. It is likely that the show pokes fun at the stereotype through him.
    • It is likely that the UK dubbing team knew he was meant to be a stereotype as well, as evident by giving him a Northern English accent while the other Guards have a Southern/London one.
